In March 2023, a fire broke out at the Brahmapuram waste plant due to the emission of toxic smoke, an incident that is well known. Following this, SHSRC-Kerala drafted a Report and Plan of Action on the Health Impact of the Incident for the Directorate of Health. The report was prepared in the previous financial year at the request of the Kerala Health Department.

After being reviewed by health officials and other relevant departments, including the Pollution Control Board, multiple meetings were conducted to discuss the report and its findings. SHSRC-Kerala then vetted the draft with expert stakeholders from the Health Department and incorporated their feedback before finalizing the report.

In the current financial year, SHSRC-Kerala has officially submitted the Final Report and Plan of Action on the Health Impact of the Brahmapuram Fire Incident for implementation.
